Obesity in Men

Obesity affects far more than weight. It raises risk for diabetes, high blood pressure, sleep apnea, and sexual health problems. It can also worsen low testosterone and urinary symptoms. CDC reports that U.S. adult obesity prevalence was 40.3% during 2021 -- 2023.

Symptoms

Weight gain, reduced stamina, snoring, low libido, worsening blood pressure or blood sugar, and fatigue.

Causes and risk

Genetics, environment, medications, stress, sleep loss, hormones, low activity, and food patterns all play a role.

How it is evaluated

Evaluation includes weight pattern, waist size, sleep history, labs, blood pressure, medication review, and screening for diabetes and hormone changes.

Treatment

Treatment may include nutrition changes, exercise, medication, sleep treatment, and long-term weight management support.

When to seek care

Seek care if weight gain is rapid, unexplained, or linked to new hormonal or metabolic symptoms.
